The Apache Project is a collaborative software development effort aimed at creating a robust, commercial-grade, featureful, and freely-available source code implementation of an HTTP (Web) server. The project is jointly managed by a group of volunteers located around the world, using the Internet and the Web to communicate, plan, and develop the server and its related documentation.

qmail is a modern replacement for sendmail, written by Dan Bernstein, who also has a web page for qmail. qmail is a secure package. There was a $1,000.00 prize for anyone who can show otherwise, which went unclaimed.  qmail is Y2K-compliant.

Samba is an open source software suite that provides seamless file and print services to SMB/CIFS clients. Samba is freely available under the GNU General  Public License

HylaFAX is designed to be very robust and reliable. The fax server is designed to guard against unexpected failures in the software, in the configuration, in the hardware and in general use. HylaFAX can support multiple modems and a heavy traffic load.

MySQL is a true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. SQL is the most popular database language in the world. MySQL is a client/server implementation that consists of a server daemon mysqld and many different client programs and libraries. PHP is a popular, freely available web applications development tool. The newest version, called PHP3, includes an HTML-embedded scripting language and a server-side preprocessor that interprets the HTML-embedded code in order to create dynamically generated web pages. PHP3 includes support for various databases, including mSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, and is commonly used for the development of database enabled web sites. PostgreSQL is a powerful relational database management system (rdbms) that is similar to Ingres. PostgreSQL is an enhancement of the original POSTGRES database management system, a next-generation DBMS research prototype. While PostgreSQL retains the powerful data model and rich data types of POSTGRES, it replaces the PostQuel query language with an extended subset of SQL.
